This exhibition features both an installation and a series of quasi-narrative videos Jeremy Borsos has made in the past several years from home movie footage he has acquired on eBay. Re-edited and combined from this source footage, these videos present the behaviours and concerns of the burgeoning post-war middle class. Poignant and humorous, they are fictive constructions of reality that not only reflect on the dreamworld of lived modernity but also consider how that world was formed by its intersection with accessible, everyday technology.
Jeremy Borsos is a Canadian artist who has worked in many formats and media including painting, photography and more recently video. He has a particular interest in the archive. His collections – from a wide variety of cultural ephemera to building materials – and their links to the past and history strongly inform his work. He currently divides his time between the west coast of Canada and Europe. This is his first exhibition in Montreal.
